Following a mostly dry February, heavy runoff from rainfall in the first week of March 2016 increased Folsom Lake storage from 600,000 ac-ft to just over 700,000 ac-ft. So far this winter, the lakes's elevation has risen just over 90 feet, up from a record low of 348.65 feet MSL on December 12, 2015 to an elevation of 439.64 feet by noon on March 8, 2016. With flood storage space encroached, five gates on Folsom Dam were opened on the morning of the 8th, releasing a total of 15,000 cfs. Several photos show the concrete spillway channel under construction, located below new outlet gates located just southeast of the existing dam.
